A CASE historical timeline is available here.
The CASE don’t like to tell tales, which is interesting as they keep detailed records. The biggest mystery almost everyone is curious about is if they were once an organic race, or if they are truly unique being a sentient mechanical race. Each CASE is subtly unique, though usually CASE have ‘genetics’ and purpose deciding what they will look like. Yes, ‘genetics’. CASE also have ‘gender’. Imagining robots having sex is somewhat odd, but CASE transmit design specs between each other at incredibly high speed through ‘interface ports’ for the purpose of reproduction. ‘Female’ CASE then begin producing a design built on aspects of the male and female designs and internally construct a CASE memory core. This memory core is then taken to a ‘reproduction center’ where it is inserted into a construction pod. These pods then build the body around the core and once this is complete a new CASE is ‘born’. Certain functionality is passed on from both parents, in a sense a ‘genetic memory’. However these must learn like any organic creature, they then chose after training an occupation and their bodies are altered if needed to suit this occupation. Gender itself seems fairly random, for some reason either the memory core will contain the code to later make new memory cores and is ‘female’ or it doesn’t and is ‘male’.
What little we know is that at least 4000 years ago the CASE had already colonized the entire Coreth system. They’ve had contact with many other independent alien races, usually peaceful as few have decided to test Coreth’s defenses, whatever those may be. What they have done is trade their services at repairing, servicing, and helping to redesign existing spacecraft. Usually they can later build such vehicles from scratch and often learn a thing or two about engineering and design concepts. The have never produced original designs as far as anyone is aware.
