A Nevk/Nec Historical Timeline is available here.
The Nevk and Nec are two related races from the same world: Nevuc, Though it should probably be said to be two inter-related races. While they are divergent from each other genetically, they retain the ability to reproduce among each other. However the mothers ‘race’ always breeds true. It has been noted historically that the Nevk have occasionally raided the early Nec and this has involved rapine events. Few modern Nevk and Nec interbreed in modern times due to the clan system that marks both races.
Nevk are noted for living in the more mountainous and hilly terrain, while the Nec prefer coastal and woodland/jungle terrain. The Nevk tend to be more aggressive and are finely furred with more distinctly animalistic features. The Nec on the other hand have light fur and often only in areas humans have hair, they are also far more humanlike in general. Some have expressed that this could imply the Nevk are a more primitive throwback of the Nec, however their own records suggest that the common ancestor diverged very early on indicating the Nevk are no more primitive than the Nec are. It is noted though that the violent creatures of prehistoric Nevuc may well have forced the early Nec into a semi-aquatic state in shallower river areas for a semblance of safety. This would then have lead to reduced fur, much like it’s said to have done in human ancestry.
Life for early Nevk and Nec was often difficult due to native species. Nevuc’s often much larger and tougher predators kept Nevk and Nec clans fairly separated and denied them any form of early naval travel. This lead to clan oriented groups, with family as the heart of the social unit. Nevk and Nec also prove fair more carnivorous than humans, though they are still qualified as omnivores. This means that only a certain portion of their diet can actually come from plants. That means a certain amount of the diet of Nevk and Nec must come from other animals. This establishes a hunting society within these family groups by necessity. It has shaped Nevk and Nec culture from their earliest recorded times.
Around the year 600 early Nevk or Nec, the historical evidence is unclear which it actually was developed the first flying primitive flying machines. These were mostly blimp or hot air balloon style vessels until about 600 years later, or about 1200, when helicopters and prop aircraft developed. Air transport had a significant impact in general however on the Nevk and Nec. Aircraft proved the method to connect the remote colonies and allow expansion of the races.
Around 1200 however when single seat craft developed it lead to taking their hunter culture to the air, including mounting weapons on them. Very few native creatures could match even these primitive prop and helicopter style aircraft and allowed the Nevk and Nec to dominate their environment for the first time in their entire history. However soon it leads to inter-clan air piracy on the trade done with blimps across their world. This ties back to their hunting culture, in fact those attacked don’t seek some form of governmental enforcement to stop it, instead the arm up and make it as hard as possible for them to be robbed and the pirates having to go home empty handed. This forms the beginnings of what the Nevk and Nec use as extra-clan law, it becomes known as ‘the pilot’s code’ and is used even inside the same clan in modern times, with the ‘right of best ability’. This basically states that whoever is more capable should have what their way. Air duels become a fact of life.
Things continue along these paths until around 2000 when a single even shakes the core of the Nevk and Nec peoples. This event became known as ‘The Day of Firewalking’, a object with some sort of controlled flight enters the atmosphere of Nevuc and after creating a flaming streak seen across the globe exits the atmosphere and seems to do a hard burn away from the planet. Several Nevk and Nec tried to get near the object in their aircraft, but all attempts fail as none had the ability to enter high enough in the atmosphere. The Nevk and Nec also lacked a firm base in Astronomy at the time and so no solid glimpse of the object was to be had. This contends with the belief that they had no reason to enter the ‘Great Sky’ or as we tend to refer to it ‘Space’. How this belief formed is uncertain, but the general belief was that no natural creatures entered space, so both races believed they had no need to do so either.
Now the Day of Firewalking changes this, they are no longer the masters of their domain as they had become for near 1400 years. Something could fly higher and go further than they imagined possible. This event leads to a race between clans to develop space capability. Within 20 years the Norya Clan ‘wins’ this race with the first orbital craft flight, it also has a strong effect on all of the populace as the Norya is a Nec clan from a small area who effectively embarrassed their larger neighbors. However due to the ‘right of best ability’ they couldn’t be touched and this clan goes on to dominate early space flight.
By 2050 they have an orbital habitat established and start exploring further into their system. The space era also marks the development of a series of common vessels used in modern times, such as the Phoenix light fighter, the Valkyrie Medium Fighter, and the Lightning Heavy Fighter. These three aerospace craft go on to be mainstays of their combat forces in the ‘Lower Sky’ and ‘Greater Sky’. This era also introduces a worldwide ‘ace of aces’ aerial dogfighting competition. It is the most prestigious thing one can win as a Nevk or Nec and often those who win can do as they please and their clan is elevated to a high position during their reign. The competitions are intense however and while the basic design of the three fighters hasn’t really changed all three vessels see radical alterations from one to the other.
The ‘space era’ is scene to come to an end by 2120 when the Nevk and Nec clans finish exploring their solar system. They lack a interstellar drive or power source to move beyond their solar system. 2132 sees a ‘standardized’ general use space vessel, the Mevial ‘Storm Dragon’ class Frigate which is the only real vessel in use until 2158. However, before that can be constructed however humanities ‘Jù lǚkè’ interstellar spacecraft arrives in 2155. The alien vessel actually ends up dealing only with one clan initially the ‘Nicyi’, who hold off reporting their presence until after establishing a treaty favoring their clan in 2156. The Nicyi used this arrangement to give certain advanced technology incorporated into the brand new Tyrus ‘Storm Chaser’ class cruisers being constructed. This elevates the position of their clan and the ‘cost’ is a permanent space station on the outer edges of their system that has a low impact on the clan.
Just over a decade later the meeting establishing the TSA begins and both Nevk and Nec send a series of clan delegates. Each clan holds out for their own interests, but eventually accept and become founding members. Publically construction of traditional Nevk/Nec vessels ends, however not all clans respect this agreement. The Rei clan holds sway of nevk/Nec politics in early 2172 and gets a lucrative contract to build the TSVA-0004 hammer class destroyer for the TSA. Their hold on the politics of is due to a young pilot among their ranks, Shadey Rei, who becomes a four time champion ace defeating the anti-TSA clan ‘Thusren’ each year. However Shadey Rei leaves Nuvec for the TSA academy in 2174 and the Thursen clan takes control at that point, this leads to a series of lengthy delays on the construction of the TSAV-0004.
